Spotify enables you to think less during your commute with new 'Your Daily Drive' playlist

Spotify released mixed first-quarter financial results but rising user and subscriber numbers before the markets opened on Monday.

Spotify wants to cut down on the number of playlist decisions you have to make during your morning commute.

Called "Your Daily Drive," the music streaming company has developed a curated mixture of songs, world news updates and podcasts based on its knowledge of your listening habits.

While this feature isn't revolutionizing the music streaming industry, it's the first time that Spotify is bringing music and podcasts together in one playlist.

The entertainment will include songs you listen to often, classic hits and music you've yet to discover along with talk shows and timely news updates from organizations like the Wall Street Journal and NPR.

"Your Daily Drive" will be updated through the day to keep both the music and news fresh, Spotify said. The rollout starts immediately.

The latest update comes a week after Spotify confirmed that it's testing out new features to help podcast creators reach larger audiences. “We’re always testing new products and features to create better listening experiences for our users," Spotify said in a statement to USA TODAY last week.

What's next?

It was also announced last week that Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground, has teamed up with Spotify to produce exclusive podcasts for the platform. Under the partnership, the former president and first lady will develop and lend their voices to select podcasts.

In a statement, the former president says podcasts offer an opportunity to “foster productive dialogue, make people smile and make people think.”

The music streaming company is also dipping its toes in the world of hardware.

Spotify said last month that it's beta testing a device called "Car Thing" to learn more about what you do and listen to in your car. The company says don't be surprised if you hear about something called a "Voice Thing" and a "Home Thing" in the future.
